Sheriff’s Office Warns of New “IRS” Scam

Click here to view the IRS scam release from the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office. From the release: Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office continues to receive reports of IRS scam operations, and Sheriff Scott Jenkins is warning residents that these scams are happening now and need to be taken seriously. Residents, especially senior citizens, are encouraged to report IRS scam calls to Culpeper dispatch (540.727.7900) so that dispatchers can give the additional information to responding deputies if they receive a subsequent “swatting” call. The Library of Congress has a program called “Veterans History Project”. VHP’s mission is to collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. Culpeper Police Department’s Community Survey Results

From the report:  “…in 2002 the Culpeper Police Department voluntarily began a Community Service Survey which every town household had a survey mailed to them with a pre-paid postage envelope to assist the citizen in returning their responses.  The survey consisted of basic demographic information, what types of interactions the citizen had with members of the Culpeper Police Department and a series of questions that the citizen can answer by a rating for various topics dealing with public safety.  Also, on this survey there is a section for the citizen to make personal comments.  This data was then compiled in a summary format.  ”   2014 Community Survey results 2014 Community Survey results For more information, please contact Captain Chris Settle at 540-829-5516...

By Allison Brophy Champion abrophy@starexponent.com (540) 825-0771 ext. 101  Culpeper Town Council is now accepting applications to fill an approximate four-month vacancy on the local governing body. At a special meeting Tuesday night in town hall, a new class of councilmen and newly elected Mayor Mike Olinger announced, following a brief closed session, that they would accept letters of intent from qualified town residents through the clerk’s office through July 8 at noon. Whomever council then subsequently selects will serve four months on council until a special election is held during the November general election. The vacancy on council was created following Olinger’s election as mayor in May.
